LemFi completes its acquisition of Wealth8, marking its first move into WealthTech.
Creed Solicitors has advised LemFi, the financial platform for people living and working across borders, on its acquisition of Wealth8 including its WealthTech platform. The deal is LemFi’s first move into the sector and broadens its product range, which already includes payments, consumer credit and savings.
LemFi was built to give people who live and work across borders reliable, low-cost access to financial services, and now serves more than two million customers, with a regulatory footprint spanning Europe, North America and Australia and with key remittance corridors across Africa and Asia. Its platform has grown from providing cross-border payments to providing credit and savings.
Wealth8 was built with the intention to provide underserved communities with the ability to invest in funds, through ISAs and general investment accounts. The acquisition will enable LemFi’s customers to access this easy way to invest.
“We started LemFi by helping people send money, because that was the most urgent need. But financial progress doesn’t stop at the transfer. This acquisition allows us to help customers, not only save and access credit, but invest — supporting them as they build long-term financial security wherever they call home.” said Ridwan Olalere, co-founder and CEO of LemFi.
The team
The Creed Solicitors team on the Wealth8 transaction was led by Richard Creed and ably assisted by associates Arianna McBurney and Gavin Murphy.
Creed Solicitors has supported LemFi throughout its rapid growth journey, as it has built its regulatory foundations across the United Kingdom and Ireland, including its earlier acquisitions of:
- Rightcard Payment Services Limited, a UK electronic money institution; and
- LemFi-Europe, an Irish payment institution — giving the LemFi group direct access to customers across the European Economic Area.
Getting a deal like this right takes patience and trust, and Creed gave us both.
From our acquisition of RightCard in the UK, LemFi-Europe in Ireland and now this acquisition of Wealth8, they’ve understood not just the regulation, but what we’re actually trying to build, and that’s made this a genuinely collaborative process.
